7th Grade EOG - May 2020
Mrs. Miller's Maternity Leave Starts 3/20
*I will be working from home to ensure that your child's grades are up to date and they are prepared for the ELA EOG in May
- 7th Grade ELA is a state tested English course. This class is used to determine seventh grade level proficiency of reading, text analysis, and ability to identify literary devices. Student will work on improving and enhancing these skills in this course.
- Daily: Each day students are given 15 minutes to write about the topic provided to them. Their grade is determined once a week by using a completion rubric. Their daily scores are added up to determine the weekly score added to the grade book.
Current Topic/Text:
Unit 2: American Immigration & Exploration
- 3/5-3/12 -Mini Poetry Unit #2 - students are working on analyzing poetry both individually and as a group. Students will complete/analyze 2 poems in-class both with their peers & as a whole group.

- How I Learned English #2
- 3/13-3/18 - The Lesser Known History of African American Cowboys - students will read and analyze the text using the provided comprehension questions and organizer. Students will work independently, in small groups, and in a whole class setting with the material. This item will be used as a study guide for students to prepare for their unit exam.
- 3/25-3/26 -Readworks Passages - students will read and analyze the text using Readworks.org. This will help them practice & apply their analytical skills and writing skills.
- 4/1 -ELA NC Check-in & 4/8 -Math NC Check-in
Assignments:
- Homework for every night is to free read anything they are interested in for at least 20 minutes
- READ READ READ! Anything of your choice!
Upcoming Dates:
- The Cremation of Sam McGree packet is due at the beginning of class on 3/10. Students were given several in class days to complete the assignment. Anything not completed during class time is assigned for homework. No late assignments or extensions can be provided for this assignment as we review the answers in class on the due date.
- How I Learned English packet is due at the beginning of class on 3/12. Students were given one in class period to complete the assignment. Anything not completed during class time is assigned for homework. No late assignments or extensions can be provided for this assignment as we review the answers in class on the due date.
- The Lesser Known History of African American Cowboys annotations & organizer are due at the beginning of class on 3/17. Students were given several in class days to complete the assignment.
